What Everybody Ought to Know About 2006 Top Songs and Artists

Dixie Chicks – the all female country – pop singers from Dallas Texas and Hasidic Jewish Artist Matisyahu were the only artist with a “Rock” genre my list this year.  2006 is a year of break ups and make ups.  The Suicide Machines disbanded abruptly this year for no apparent reason but on the other hand, the legendary hip – hop group Bone Thugs and Harmony reunited this year.

Nevertheless, none of the two made my 2006 top songs.  Here are my top 6:

My #6 is:  Justin Timberlake’s “Sexyback” – a song written by American singer – songwriter and a former member of Nsync’.  This is his lead single in his 2006 album FutureSex/LoveSounds.  The best dance muic of 2006, sexy back was co-written and produced by Justin Timberlake, rap artist Timbaland and Nate Hills.

My #5 is:  Dixie Chicks’ “Not Ready to Make Nice”- a country pop song which is also co written by the all female group for their 7th studio album called Taking the Long Way (2006).  Natalie Maines, Dixie Chicks main vocalist suffered career fallout because of the songs’ minor anti – Bush comment. The song still got positive reviews from all sorts of publications like The Entertainment Weekly, USA Today and All Music.

My # 4 is:  Matisyahu’s “Youth” – Well known for his traditional Jewish style and mixing it with modern rock, Marley’s Reggae and intermediate skill of beat boxing sounds.  The Hasidic Jewish Reggae artists’ “Youth” is in my number 4.  His unique music, creative blend of sound and his Jewish – American diction really gets my attention.

My #3 is Jesse McCartney’s “She’s No You “– Now we reached 3rd spot on the list.  The spot goes to She’s No You by Jesse McCartney who attained an international success with this single this year.   I just love the song that it goes as #4 in my list and is also my pick as the top love song this year.

My #2 is:  Black Ice’s “The Ugly Show”- Black Ice’s poems includes racism and social issues blends it with his unique hip hop prowess and his catchy lyrics climbed to my number 2 spot.  A poet from Philadelphia, Black Ice was once featured in the TV program Def Poetry Jam with Russel Simmons.  Ugly Show was about the staggering after effect of the hurricane Katrina.

My #1 is:  Gnarls Barkley’s “Crazy”- Gnarls Barkley is composed of the New Yorker multi-instrumentalist/producer Brian Burton A.K.A Danger Mouse and the rapper from Atlanta Thomas Callaway A.K.A. Cee Lo Green.  “Crazy” was their first single from their first album St. Elsewhere was a successful commercial hit because of the duo’s soul flavour and provocative lyrics with a touch of modern style music and is my number one on my 2006 top songs.

I ranked my 2006 top songs in this following criterias:  uniqueness, production, lyrics, melodic, angst and the feeling brought by the song.  Enjoy my top 20 list from the best songs released on Dec. 1, 2005 – Nov. 30, 2006.  Enjoy!
