4 “Poor Man’s” Supercars

While there might not really be a thing as “cheap” supercars, the most expensive supercars can actually cost up to $700,000 to a million dollars like the Pagani Zonda and Bugatti Veyron. So if your savings is as much as half a million, then you can definitely buy one that even less. This article lists some of the high-ends cars that cost less than $500,000 which is relatively cheaper than other luxury cars. The ones below might not focus on hyper royalty but buyers will always get the value for their money particularly in terms of fuel consumption.

The Ferrari 458 Italia was released in 2009 as the successor of the F430. This is undoubtedly the prettiest compact Ferrari that exists today. The 458 Italia boasts of mid-engine aspirated 4.5 L, 8 cylinder V8. The popular color combinations today are usually the red with black leather and the black with red leather. The 458 is also the first (among most Ferraris) to totally rid of the stalks at the back of the car’s steering wheel and change the daily driver functions such as turning the headlights on/off and the wiper blades control are functionally reduced to buttons on the steering wheel of the car. Performance of the 458 Italia is 62 mph acceleration in 3.3 seconds with top speed of 202 mph. Although the 458 is estimated at a retail price of more or less $250,000, it can still depreciate and might even open up a bargain from private sellers or via a trusted dealer.

The second road car from McLaren, the McLaren MP4-12C is a direct rival of the 458 which is somehow a statement from the manufacturer that they can still make a serious machine for racers who are not interested in flashing famous brand names. It is a shade lighter but quicker than the 458 Italia, thanks to the 3.8 L twin turbo V8. The MP4-12C also highlights daily driving practicality with softer suspensions. The stylish butterfly doors and striking combinations in color also make it more refined than the 458. When it comes to performance, the MP4-12C can run from 0-200 kph in less than 10 seconds. This supercar is also available in hard-top or convertible models. This kickass road car costs as much as $230,000. The 12C is constructed around a carbon fiber monocell which makes it stiff with a multi-piece roof that’s foldable. Several car review websites say that the MP4-12C is most likely the best roofless car in the world yet.

The first supercar that Audi has introduced is the Audi R8. The R8 debuted in 2008 as the German car manufacturer’s attempt in landing a spot in the luxury car industry dominated by Italians for as long as a lifetime. As opposed to the McLaren and the 458 Italia, the R8 offers two engines which is either the 4.3 L V8 or the 5 L V10. This super car is available as soft-top Spider convertible or hard-top but with limited colors. Compared with the previous two supercars discussed here, the R8 is economically priced starting at $132,000 for the Spyder and $119,000 for the V10. The 2014 pricing of the base R8 is a modest increase of $700 from previous V8 models. R8s have new wave-rotor brakes, new LED taillights and headlights, new interior trims, and large dual exhaust outlets which replaced the previous 4-outlet exhaust.

Last in this list is the Lamborghini Gallardo. This machine should not be underestimated although the design its design looks a bit dated compared with that of the MP4-12C and 458 Italia. The Gallardo is available in 5 L V10 with an option for 4-wheel drive and 0-100 kph quicker than the McLaren and the R8. Later updates include a change of the exhaust system to a sportier look and an increase in the engine power by 20 bhp to 520 metric hp. The Gallardo is priced between $181,000 to $250,000 and more in retail. Sadly though, this supercar will soon be replaced by the Lamborghini Huracan. During its product cycle of 10 years, 14,022 units of the Gallardo had been built. The last model for the Gallardo was rolled out on November 2013. The last Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder was purchased by a private collector.
