More men aged 30 to 39 are having their hormone levels checked. They are coming in to cosmetic centers asking for complete health exams to determine their hormone levels with their testosterone level specifically in mind. The complete health exam includes thorough blood testing that allows professionals to determine the exact hormone levels; identifying any low levels or clinical deficiencies.
Information released from studies of testosterone levels in the last several years offered interesting conclusions. Testosterone replacement therapy is apparently under used. The release of this type of information has resulted in the typical response; an influx of individuals worried that they need the treatment. It’s not a surprising response. The study (Nature Reviews Urology) indicated that the issue of low testosterone as well as clinical deficiencies in testosterone are under diagnosed. It also indicated that those who were diagnosed were under treated.
Nature Reviews Urology study concluded:
1. Of all men aged between 40 and 70 years old a total of 6% to almost 10% are testosterone deficient.
2. Of all men who are either obese and/or diabetic 15% to 30% are found to be testosterone deficient.
3. Men diagnosed with low testosterone or testosterone deficiency – about 10% are actually treated properly
Middle aged men responded to the new information with an influx of interest in testosterone levels, testosterone deficiencies and testosterone replacement therapy. Experts indicate that this is a normal and generally healthy response. Individuals are more aware of the consequences of untreated deficiencies.
Ignoring low testosterone or a clinical deficiency of testosterone can result in abnormal bone or muscle growth. It can result in a drastic decrease in virility, endurance and stamina. It can result in fatigue. And these are only a few of the symptoms. The problem with the symptoms are that they can be applied to a variety of disorders and conditions. To accurately identify a testosterone deficiency individuals must have their blood levels tested. Testosterone replacement therapy should not be administered with proper diagnosis verification.
