Refinery29 created a brilliant flow chart mapping out how to get your home photographed by The Selby. As cheeky as it is, the map to Todd Selby famedom, which is fittingly painted in watercolors in his style, pinpoints a few key things about the homes The Selby selects. A bonafide hipster himself, the chosen ones are almost exclusively equally creative types, such as fashion designers, artists, musicians, skateboarders, etc. Their homes act as yet another artistic outlet, and the manifestation of that is most often seen in collections. Be it thrifted and vintage wares, or luxurious and obscure fashion accessories, Selby’s hand-picked muses are driven some strange maximalist force to stockpile and arrange their belongings in unorthodox ways. The mass of these seemingly meaningless – and often weird – items is much like a stack of bangles around these fashionistas’ wrists; the sum of the parts is the look Selby’s after. I certainly don’t qualify. Do you?
