CITY OF BISMARCK POLICE YOUTH WORKER

Performs counseling and educational work with juveniles, families,
and the community. Receives and handles referrals of youthful
offenders from police officers, family members, social services,
schools, and Juvenile Court, to facilitate their diversion from the
formal justice system. The Youth Worker is
required to develop and assist in preventative strategic planning,
with outreach programs, and diversion to assist youth, families and
the community in order to address at risk behavior. Work requires
being on a call rotation every six weeks.
Work involves an element of personal danger as it is necessary to
deal with in-progress crisis situations which may involve a
violent, anti-social, uncooperative, mentally- ill, and/or an
intoxicated juvenile or adult. Work may involve the completion of
administrative duties to include scheduling, making case
assignments, and/or assigning follow up as required.
Bachelor’s degree in counseling, criminal justice,
social work, or a specifically related field is required. One year
of professional experience in youth services is desired and a
certificate in social work or equivalent certification should be
obtained within one year of hire. For full
