Rap Artists Can Promote, Distribute and Buy Beats Online

Everybody seems to be talking about how the music industry is crashing and it’s impossible to come up these days, but with the ability to buy beats online, distribute yourself worldwide using the internet and promote yourself for free using websites… I’m not exactly sure where their information is coming from. Sure it’s true that illegal downloading and cyber pirating has become somewhat of a problem in the past couple of years, but it’s blown way out of proportion and it’s definitely not the reason why the major industry is seeing so many less sales. The music industry is going through some dramatic changes but by no means is the rap game, hip hop or music in general dying out.

The media may be to blame for all the false talk because as sales decline for major artists around the world, the blame has to be put somewhere and the media doesn’t by any means want to reveal the truth. Sure it sounds like I’m speaking of a conspiracy but truly I think that they don’t want you knowing what’s really going on. The major industry is seeing less sales but that doesn’t mean a thing when you take a look at the overall scene of music. The independent scene is doing better than you can imagine and it’s because of their success that the majors are doing worse.

For instance did you know that in 2009 Billboard magazine publicly estimated that 50% of the record sales and singles downloaded that year were from independent record labels and artists? Those are some seriously huge numbers. For the longest time it had been known that the major labels had a seriously dominating fist punching down on the music scene, but that’s all changed now. Major labels are now seeing less and less sales every project they put out and it’s seriously scaring a lot of people into making up all these crazy accusations about the hip hop games current state.

The internet is actually helping everything along in a huge way. While some people believe that cyber pirating is ruining things, that’s not true either. 80% of music lovers still buy music according to every statistic and study I’ve ever seen that had any legitimacy. So how is it that only 20% of sales are seen as a loss due to illegal downloading and yet the industry is all tripping out about it? New technologies such as the internet have completely revolutionized the music scene in a very good way, especially for the independent artists trying to come up, so don’t get it twisted.

The internet has made it possible to promote yourself online for free, so it’s no longer necessary to have a big budget to get yourself heard. Websites such as YouTube, MySpace and Twitter have made viral marketing easy to achieve and more websites like this are coming out every day. Not only that but the internet has also provided many more enormous opportunities for hip hop artists and musicians around the world. For instance Tunecore, an online distribution company, has now made it possible for artists to get themselves on major mp3 retailers such as iTunes, Rhapsody and more for a low, affordable cost that even poor independents can find a way to afford. Plus being able to buy beats online has changed the game completely.
