When Marcia Kilgore, an ex personal trainer, found that her lifestyle simply didn’t afford her enough time to visit the gym on a regular basis, she resolved herself to do something about it. In conjunction with the London South Bank University (LSBU) she conceived and developed Fitflops – a range of fitness sandals and shoes.
These have a specially designed “microwobbleboard” sole which is partitioned into three distinct sections. Each of the areas utilises a different material to create the microwobbleboard effect. The heel section is constructed from high density material which helps to cushion against impacts while walking. The mid section, from the arch to just behind the toes, is made from a low density material and the toe section is made from a medium density material which helps to maintain speed, pace and variation.
The result of this is that the duration of muscle usage is increased when walking normally – typically by 16%. Every step that you take when wearing your Fitflops helps to tone your legs and trim your buttocks. It’s like a free lower body workout just by walking about normally.
