The medical name for it is atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema. Eczema is more commonly seen in infants, and can affect them throughout their adult lives.
According to some European studies approximately 30% of the skin related visits to the dermatologist resulted in a diagnosis of atopic eczema. The hardcore truth is this skin condition knows no boundaries. It has no problem attacking men, woman, children, and even those of various ethnic backgrounds. In a recent study doctors in Western Europe, North America and Australia it was discovered that the number of individuals being diagnosed has grown.
According to Scottish researchers children with severe eczema feel their quality of life is impaired to the same extent as those with other chronic illnesses. It is also a proven fact that young children who get atopic eczema tend to develop asthma months or even years later. In the medical field this in known as, “The Atopic March.”
Although a lot has been discovered over the years about eczema there are still some things that we do not know such as the exact cause of this skin condition. Scientists best guess is that the condition results from a variety of factors including personal and family genetics, immune response and environmental factors. However stress and other emotional discord has been known to make eczema worse, there is no proof that it actually causes the condition.
If by chance both parents have eczema or other disorders such as asthma or hey fever, chances are that their children will develop it. In addition, approximately 75% of children with eczema also develop hay fever or asthma.
Do to the lack of medical advancement in this area, more and more individuals that are suffering from this skin condition have started seeking natural cures and home remedies.
