Can We Get Rid Of Stretch Marks?

Stretch marks are actually linear scars of the skin that initially materialize as red-purplish lines and diminish to paler tones with time. They can cause a lot of distress to those people who have them but people can get rid of stretch marks with either surgical or home based treatments.

When skin is stretched to its breaking point, similar to elastic losing its elasticity, these marks appear. It is the breaking of the collagen fibers in the skin that leaves these scars on the skin.

These stretch marks tend to show up where larger amounts of fat are stored such as on the abdomen, buttocks, breasts, thighs, upper arms and even hips. They are generally associated with pregnancy but they can appear during rapid muscle growth as well thereby making them prone to both females and males.

While there is no cure for stretch marks, a number of treatments are available for reducing them. Surgical procedures such as chemical peels, micro-dermabrasion and even laser treatments used to tackle unwanted stretch marks are reported to be very successful. But the downfall of such surgical procedures is that they are very costly and not generally covered by insurance.

There are also a number of creams and certain lotions that aim to reduce stretch marks. A lot of guaranteed-effective creams are out on the market which gets rave reviews. Massaging of the skin and exfoliating are also inexpensive treatments that can help. In addition to any treatment taken, maintaining a healthy diet will help get faster results.

While the treatments available for getting rid of stretch marks do not completely get rid of them, they have been shown to make them disappear so much so that they become almost unnoticeable.
